Dr. Stacie Petter serves as the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professor in the School of Business. As the inaugural Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, Stacie is responsible for faculty development initiatives and resources, recruiting and evaluation policies, faculty funding programs, faculty recognition programs, and many more areas impacting the faculty experience.

Stacie joined Wake Forest University in 2022 as Professor of Management Information Systems in the School of Business. She served as the Area Chair for Analytics, Information Systems, Marketing, and Operations Management in 2022-2023. In 2024, she was named the Peter C. Brockway Chair of Strategic Management. Prior to joining Wake Forest University, Stacie held the position of Ben H. Williams Professor of Information Systems and Business Analytics at Baylor University. She has also served as a faculty member at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dr. Petter earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Information Systems at Georgia State University, an MBA with a concentration in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Berry College.

Before her academic career, Stacie gained valuable industry experience as a help desk coordinator, application developer, and information technology consultant. These roles honed her skills as a creative problem-solver, improving business processes, creating technology solutions, and developing means to support knowledge transfer within organizations.

Stacie’s research focuses on the potential of information systems and technology to generate value and benefits, as well as potential harm, to individuals and organizations. It spans a variety of topics and methods, including quantitative methods, qualitative methods, and design science. She is particularly interested in examining how information technology can be used to respond to human trafficking and other illicit activities. Additionally, her research explores gamification and online games in organizations, as well as how an individual’s personal identity with information technology affects technology use in personal or business settings.

In 2022, Stacie was honored as a recipient of the AIS Fellow Award presented by the Association for Information Systems, recognizing her significant global, national, and regional academic contributions to the information systems discipline. Her research has been prominently featured in MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, and various other information systems publications. Stacie’s work on human trafficking has received funding from the National Science Foundation and the IBM Center for the Business of Government.
